p. 77 Abstract nouns
Happiness, love, success, wealth - what do these words all have in common?
Besides the fact that they are all things we want in life, all of these words are abstract nouns. They are nouns that refer to things which do not exist as material objects - usually ideas and concepts.
A good way to decide whether or not a noun is abstract is to see whether it is something you can experience using teh five senses. If you cannot see it, hear it, smell it, touch it or taste it, then it is probably abstract.
